Milwaukee M18 Grease Gun Cartridge Change

In this video I show how to change the cartridge in the Milwaukee M18 Grease Gun. This is a relatively simple process as long as you are familiar with grease guns. For a while I was inserting grease tubes incorrectly into grease guns. While I was still able to pump grease, in my head I was saying there has to be a better way as the way I was doing it was messy and took more time than needed. This video is not telling you what grease to use and this is not a universal guide. There are commonalities between all grease guns but each one is specific and you should consult the manual for the best way for your specific unit.

Thank you for the help! I’m an old school guy, and I’ve been greasing my excavators with a manual pump grease gun for 25 years . I finally broke down, and bought an automatic grease gun, but couldn’t figure out how to put a new tube into it! Milwaukee gave me a gun with no instructions when I was buying several other tools. Great job on the video

Correct way is to remove battery pack, pull the rod by the handle all the way back and put it into the retaining slot to lock the rod in place, unscrew the barrel, load the new cartridge in, screw barrel back into grease gun, release rod and push back into barrel, prime the gun to purge air with the priming valve.

Remember to prime the grease cartridge so the plunger slides into the tube easily. You will see how dry the cartridge end is when it is new. Rub some of the grease around the dry cardboard before inserting it into gun tube. This will ensure the plunger slides into the cartridge without resistance.

For a newbie, how to actually load the grease cartridge would be helpful. Maybe do another version that shows that, not just before and after loading the cartridge:)

Scott where did you get the coupler for your grease gun? Mine (that came with the gun) is incredibly hard to remove from zerks.

I push 2-3 tubes thru mine a day as a PM mech for rental equipment. I'm just curious why you'd pull the plunger after removing the cartridge casing? I pull my plunger while it's still in the machine.

The version sold in the UK sounds very different to this one and others I've watched on YouTube the clicking noise you spoke about is much much faster on yours

Mine won’t work unless the rod is pull out, if I push the rod in it will shot grease then air I’ll prime it shot grease again then stop shot air again Al this With a new tube of grease in there always been like that since new
