but there are good people there, strong families not just gangs.

Lifelong Chicagoan here. Can confirm this is true. I lived 3 blocks away from O block and would (cautiously) walk alone by myself but you could not get me out of my car in west Garfield park. It’s an open air drug market, they don’t even try to hide it.

Was at a block party in West Garfield Park last summer when a car pulled up and started shooting. The first round got about 6 inches from my head. The west side is much smaller than the south side is but the Herion trade that exists in this part of the city is what truly drives it to be the most violent part of Chicago.

I want to clarify that Chicago isn’t as dangerous in general as most people seem to think. The truth is that a lot of this city is great and safe (so long as you keep your nose out of others business like every other American city), but the bad parts are REALLY bad. It’s honestly not even describable tbh. When you go to these places it’s so bad that it just completely oppresses your soul and makes you feel hopeless. We gotta fix our city and the perception of it

Great doc TLR, you managed to keep the run time short but you were so thorough in your content and presentation metrics that it worked out beautifully. I think the best way to make WGP a more peaceful, prosperous, harmonious place is to remove the drugs. As a guy that lives in Chicago, specifically on the west side. I find it funny how people who don’t live in Chicago believe the south side is the most dangerous part of Chicago. Back in the early 2010’s when drill music was at its peak, the Austin area on the west side of Chicago was the most deadliest part of Chicago.

The Westside has always been more dangerous than the Southside. They have the most shootings and deaths every year. He is right in terms of out of State people don’t hear much about the Westside is because the most popular rappers that’s out of Chicago is from the Southside of Chicago.
