A lot of people don't believe me when I say that the reserves and National Guard get the same ID

I was in from 1982-1985. The old style ID was green for active duty and I believe red for reserve or NG.
I recently applied for and was issued the new government issued "Veterans ID card." It's nothing special. It serves as proof of service, and beats carrying around your DD214 for veterans discounts etc.

My dad's was drafted for Korea, his ID card status said Duration meaning he was drafted for the Duration of the war. Yes my dad is 85.

In my era, 1990s we still used simple B-W passport type photos with laminated 2A Geneva Convention cards. 👍🏻🇺🇸😎. When I ETSed, I got a "red" 2A ID card. It showed my IRR status or individual ready reserve up until 09/1996. Back when I was on active duty, troops that got bad checks or had no AAFES check cashing ability had that stamped on their 2A military ID 😧... It seemed a bit harsh but times & banking were different before 2000 or so.

Pro tip: when booking flights for yourself the service member enter your DOD ID into the KTN field and watch what happens: you get pre check!

Vietnam era, my picture had my name behind it, so you could see it by holding it up to the light. Same with my retirement ID.

My ID card was green and was laminated during my time. Nothing fancy. It had your name, rank, picture and a few more info about you.
The end of your service was marked EAOS which stood for EXPIRATION ACTIVE OBLIGATED SERVICE. Nothing fancy about it. Back then we just called it our military ID card.

I’ve recently enlisted in the US Air Force reserve and on a branch-specific program called the Development and Training flight, sort of like the DEP for active duty, I presume. Because I will going to a reserve base for my “drills” and BMT prep, they require me to get a CAC card, which i’ll be doing in a couple of weeks through RAPIDS. Well, hope I can slim my face down before getting my picture taken😂

Whenever anyone called it a "CAC card" at BCT, the drills would always yell and say "What in the fuck is a Common Access Card Card, pri??!!" hahah. CAC is all we called it.

Awesome video! There was one variation that you did not mention because a lot of people don’t know about it it seems. Medics get a red cross identifier on the front of their ID.

My AAFES ID card looked just like my old dependent ID except for the *RESTRICTED* was x'd meaning I could use it to enter any AAFES store or movie but I was not allowed buy cigarettes or alcohol with it. Once my dependent ID expired I was SOL if I wanted booze or smokes on post lol. Even though I worked at Shoppette #1 and we sold that stuff 24hrs a day 365.

Hi, my wife went to get her id card today and she wears scarf. She had to take it off because she needed a memorandum. Is there anyway to change the photo on the CAC card ? Maybe at reception? She was shy to ask about it but she feels sad about not being able to take picture with her scarf. Thank you

My ID card was green but that was a bit ago. With time comes change surprised they don’t use chips under the skin yet I’m sure that’s on the way. Enjoy your videos was a crew chief in my service days most of my pilots were Vietnam vets and some of the best I had the honor to fly with. Flew with the oldest pilot at that time he was in the first class of pilots who flew in Korea. Was a CWO 4 and was 72 years old and he was still sharp and he could fly. If I had to do it all again I wouldn’t hesitate had a good time and worked with some great people..
