Mike Rowe explains how generations of young people were forced into white-collar careers after being told that a four-year degree was the only path to success. Now, it looks like A.I. may be coming for their jobs. The good news is there are 11 million job openings that don’t require a college degree. So, why do people still think college is the only way forward?
PragerU’s short documentary Trading Up shows that opportunities in the trades are plentiful and profitable—setting young people up for rapid success compared to expensive and time-consuming college degrees.

You never see an unemployed welder, plumber or electrician unless they are retired from their profession. And these skills will land you work in every country.

I tried college twice, hated classes, dropped out both times, became a depressed drug addict, pizza delivery driver, found out i loved driving. LOOOOVED driving. Plan is to go to truck driving school. Coulda saved a lot of time and crap if I'd known that early on. But I had very high ACT and SAT scores so everyone thought I needed to go to college.

Love Mike. Been working hard at educating people to get real for many years now. Time to roll up your sleeves America and get to work.

I retired at age 55 from a job that did not require a degree. I was a nuclear reactor operator. My employer provided the training, so much so that it was worth 50 college credits. I have no college or any other kind of debt in retirement.

They never talked about trade school in my HS. Never talked about an Associate in Science either, just an AA

I started in construction at age 14. Worked in it my whole life. Got a college degree a master+ and taught construction in high school and jr college. Never been out of work and I am 80 now and still working. Sure glad I followed this direction.

I worked a bunch of different jobs until I got my CDL at 45 years old. I make more money now that I ever dreamed doing office work.

My children were both gifted and if I were a parent today with high IQ children I would never send them to a University in the US today, unless they professed to be UNWOKE.

I’m an auto worker for a Japanese manufacturer and it’s been the best job I’ve ever had. It’s not perfect but we aren’t hurting by any means. When it’s all said and done it boils down to people not wanting to work anymore and that’s the bottom line.

Too bad most people don't want to learn a trade anymore. They think it is beneath them.

Tried to get on in a trade school. Got turned down because I didn't have a degree or prior work experience. Where I live, most construction companies are looking for immigrants, not citizens to work. I find it hard to believe these different trades are in need of people.

I have a niece and a nephew that have both completed their four year university degrees in the last three years. Both are very lucky to have no debt, since their parents were capable of paying out over $200K on their behalf. Both were lucky enough to find employment within six months after completing their education. Both are doing jobs that have nothing to do with the degrees they studied for and achieved. Both were trained for their current positions by their new employer. Both are earning about $10 per hour above the minimum wage. I asked them both a simple question; "Is there anything in your current job, that you could not be doing with a high school diploma and your employer's training?" The answer was a clear, "NO".

I was always a terrible student and wound up doing a variety of retail jobs. Decided at 41 to become a nurse went to community college and became an RN. I’m retired now but I enjoyed doing work that helped people for the rest of my working life.

He didn't "school" anybody. He simply told it like it is,

I wanted to be an animator. Going to college killed that dream. Nowadays, all but the oldest professional animators got their degrees from Skill Share and trial and error.
