Giant House Spider UK

This one has been living under my TV. About 7cm in size so fairly large!

I had one of these crawling on my bed towards me while I was on my laptop a few months ago. Never jumped out of bed so fast lmao.

Late last summer during the really hot spell I was lying on my side in bed at night in just shorts with no duvet because of the heat. I felt a tickle run up my back. Thought it might be a fly or moth at first so swatted at it, then realised it was something A LOT bigger. It was making its way up to my neck, so I leaped up and switched on the bedside light. I looked behind and saw a HUGE house spider fall off my back and onto the bed - I swear I heard it land!

Almost stepped on one walking out for a midnight snack, just chilling on the floor. They only seem to come out at night but they are very fast if you startle them.

Handling one of these is my goal towards curing my arachnophobia. Once I can confidently handle one this size, I’ll be free from the fear.

Well done in not hurting it, too many people kill every house spider they come across. I have a few spiders in my room where I live and their going nowhere. I just give them the freadom to roam.

I’ve seen a bigger one than that, I was on my iPad I looked up beside me on the wall it took up nearly half of the wall

If I see these guys around the house I pick them up and move them to the utility room, that way they have their best chance of survival.
If my cat sees one he’ll eat it 😑

I was trying to get a bhudda head for a statue out of our old drain that’s not in use and that thing just came running out to me never jumped so fast lol, the thing just teleported towards me

And THAT is why I coat all the flat surfaces in my house with a product which I daren't name in case it's withdrawn for being too effective.

people need to stop worrying about these spiders they are super friendly and studdys show they will only bite when they are just about to die i.e if you press on it. this is the spider we eat around 3 times per year while we sleep due to they are wandering spiders. ever woke with a spider leg in your teeth.. say hi to its owner.

It died if you put it outside. It was probably born in your house. There's really no reason to bother them, they eat the worse pests such as mosquitoes and flies.

They're called house spiders because that's their preferred environment. Put it outside and it will die.
