Something like this might not be for everyone, but especially for people with dexterity issues this is a serious winner. Thanks for bringing that up, Nick.

Thanks a lot for the great video! I appreciate the unbiased review and opinions. I'm Left Handed, so that was the motivation for the design. After I made the first prototype I realized how great the CME was for Lefty's, Large Hands, Wearing Gloves...etc
I still make each one in my home shop in Iowa. I'm sure I could get the price down if the demand was at a point to justify scaling up. As it is right now, they are very time consuming! Thanks again for all that you do!!!

It may not be “crucial, ” but as a lefty who has always had to awkwardly finangle compression locks with my thumb this is definitely a buy, it makes this ambi friendly locking system even more ambi friendly

As someone with arthritis and neuropathy in my hands, these are a Godsend! I have them on ALL of my compression lock folders

As a lefthanded person, I need this in my life.

Why is spyderco not doing this? It's basically a buttonlock, they already have one in the smock.

I'm a lefty and I have been mulling over getting one of these for some time. I'm also subbed to OCD-4-EDC and he decided on cyanoacrylate because it is removable. If you want a more permanent bond you can just use another glue or epoxy. I hope they sell well and he can drop the price because $25 for a tiny piece of milled G10 is the only thing holding me back.

This would make me, as a right-hand knife user, want a left-hand compression lock to use my thumb.

This is, essentially, an aftermarket way of recreating the Smock's button-over-compression lock, and I have always considered that the best possible version of the compression lock! I have always wondered why Spyderco didn't do something like this themselves.

It seems to me like he should make it slightly narrower/shallower so that it sits flush (or at least more flush) in the open position. That will always vary from knife to knife, but 1/16"+ shorter would probably work better for most models.

This is a pretty cool idea especially for someone who where’s gloves when they work I think I’ll have to try this out!! Thank you!!

Even if the price may seem high, mods like these are brilliant. 🙂 I got diagnosed with cancer 6 months ago, lost control of my left arm due to a tumor and - boy - are things like these stuff you don’t expect in life. A year ago I would have seen the appeal of something like this mod but never purchased one; now, I just ordered one of these for my main EDC in case my dexterity deteriorates further in the future. Thanks for showcasing this. 👍

Just learned about this and I greatly appreciate the in-depth review. I’ve more or less stayed away from the compression lock as a lefty, but I recently picked up a PM2 for a nice price, and may need get one of these!

Just a tip for everyone, this is an amazing idea to mod your pm2 but if you have access to basic tools you could do this yourself with many materials.

If you have plastic, wood or maybe some metals you could also do this.

Problem with cheap items is, that you can only make profit of them if you can sell them in large numbers or you have a seemingly large margin on them. I think that price is reasonable, else it would probably not be worth doing it.

Now I need to buy one. I have a few gripes with how Spyderco executes the compression lock and this might just void them. Great find.

If you do have trouble with the CA glue not holding up, I have had good luck with E6000 glue on smooth stainless steels.

Yea CA glue is pretty intense. Had you scuffed the surface at all before gluing?

Edit: ah, you just said you didn't really do any prep work, so I'm guessing not. I've used CA glue for a lot of woodworking projects (and other similar projects with other materials), though and CA glue holds really well. I wouldn't hesitate to use it for this application. Should hold on for a looong long time.

I'm 1000% going to order a few of these for my Para 3s. While it may not make a huge difference with bare hands, I think it'll make a big difference with gloves. I've found that some gloves can make compression locks a little tough to manipulate.

Yea, $25 is totally reasonable considering many G10 backspacers and other accessories are the same price range. This might be smaller, but I think that price is more for labor than for materials.

Thanks for this review. Love the Shaman but slight arthritis means that I absolutely cannot close it. This little doohickey means I can finally get one. Because, let’s face it, we all need one more knife.
