10 Tips To Passing ADI Part 3

Here are 10 tips to help you pass your ADI part 3 or standards checks.
0:42 1. Make sure you have 2 students prepared for the ADI part 3 and standards check test . The 2nd is an emergency student in case the 1st pulls out and leaves you stranded with a standards check but no student. If you are choosing a Full license holder for your ADI Part 3 you do want to ensure you are still showing progress meaning you need the route to be challenging.
1:40 2. Set a good solid SMART Goal before the ADI part 3 test :
Specific
Measurable
Achievable
Relevant
Time Bound
At the beginning of the ADI part 3 or standards check you will want to set the Goals and lesson parameters of the lesson. A great way to measure this is to use scaling.
4:30 3. Selecting the right route for your ADI part 3 is just a must. You don't want to face any surprises such as road works or road closures or troublesome roundabouts that will be out of your students league of driving.
5:15 4. Plan around your students development areas before going for your ADI part 3. This allows you to plan a better route and allows you to think about how you are going to deal with any problems that are likely to arise.
5:30 5. Always adapt the lesson. When taking the ADI part 3 although you will have a general plan you will likely not be able to follow that plan to the letter. If your student makes some serious mistakes on the way to a learning area for instance you would want to address these which may involve changing the lessons direction.
6:20 6. Building Rapport with student. Show the examiner during your ADI Part 3 test that you have a good relationship with the student.
7:30 7.Give lots of Praise - It really helps when the nerves are running high. Any chance get it in there!
8:00 8. Encourage questions at every opportunity.
9:00 9. Clear early instructions for the student at all times. If the student makes a mistake because of directions ask your self could you have phrased it better?
10:00 10.Manage Risk - If you need to use the duels that's fine. Just address it do not ignore it. You have done nothing wrong. Just make sure you deal with it.

10:05 Bonus Content
2nd pair of eyes - watch the student and the road like a hawk.
Don't be late back to the test center. This will show poor time management and will probably annoy the examiner. I know i would be if I lost my brake.

Great presentation, down to earth at a pace that suited me. Straightforward instead of the long winded style of most tutors.

Hi Josh.
Informative video, well done.
It's a common misconception that the top reason for failing is risk management.
It's actually not adapting the lesson!
In most cases, the outcome won't be affected by being late back. If the examiner feels like the lesson is running over they will prompt the instructor. 👍

Been watching many of your videos and guides to support my Part 1 and 2 training and glad to say I passed my Part 2 this morning with a single driver fault (a very silly one). I start my Part 3 on the 12th June so looking for every tip I can get. Enjoying your content as I find these very easy to understand, useful and well structured so you’ve just got another subscriber.

hi josh, your videos' are great, ive recently started watching your videos. loving them!! today i went to one of the driving schools to buy a package for driving instructor training. the owner have been completely honest with me and told me that the ratio of passing the part 3 is a disaster. its ofcourse not impossible but its really hard. he even said the examiner failed one of their guy saying im not sure whether to pass you or not but i will fail you,
that was his third attempt. can you make a video on your experience and how many attempts it took you on part 2 and part 3. little bit more in detail. thanks

I wouldn’t have a clue how to train an instructor for part 3). Getting a 49/51 51/51 last two SC apparently makes me a good bet! Good luck just give them what there looking for to pass, then once you’ve achieved the badge, gain experience and teach the way that suits you and the pupil a lot about client centred. Good luck.
