Cherry Audio just released P-10, an emulation of the Prophet 10 by Sequential Circuits. This is basically two Prophet 5s put together. Is it any good?

And now, Cherry Audio put out “Synth Stack 5” (which I can’t help but see it as their take of Arturia’s “V Collection”). This means I get all of the new ones they put out this year at a low price per title =]

I have Repro and Arturia and I think I don’t need another Prophet emulation. What needs to be considered is that if you get the u-he, it also includes an excellent emulation of the Pro-One and, as usual with u-he, they have very good presets

Always like your videos and perspectives, Alex. Thanks brother! 🦊

i usually have a pretty strong opinion in blind tests, but i gotta say -- those 4 sounded almost identical to me... maybe the last one had a hair more depth to it? but none of them were lacking in some way that made me think they were deficient.

Listening to the blind test: A, D, B, C in that order. Thanks for the comparison!

And the price is always nice for Cherry Audio synths..

Thank you Alex
They all sound pretty good - I'd be happy to use them all.
All had a good filter, very similar.
From the perspective of recording or playing live ( & not accuracy ), I'd choose A, D, B - a definite last would be C.
A has a very strong initial envelope and a solid tone
D also has a strong tone.
B was very similar to D but with a slightly less solid tone at the end.
C had the weakest tone post filter, along with very slight pitch rise over time.
In perspective, these are all only slight differences, that could probably easily be compensated for.

For me it was A over D, over B, and finally C. None of them were unusable in an ensemble.

Interestingly, I own A (P-10) and D (Repro-5). I actually like the R-5 a lot, but found it to be a resource hog. I was never able to set it for more than 3-4 voices without risking crashes and stuck notes mid-performance. That was based on the 8th-gen Dell microPC I was using a couple of years ago, though, and to be fair I've heard the same comments about P-10. I've upgraded my PC since then, so I should probably retest.

But the P-10 just has a bit of magic to my ears!

Thanks for this video mate. A good review. As for sound comparisons, they all sound pretty good IMHO. But YouTube audio mooshes everything so downloading and listening to the real thing on your own system and finding one you love is best.

The Cherry audio is good but the UI on REPRO is far superior ... though I wish it were more like PIGMENTS in modulation functions

I havent watched the whole video yet, but i have a couple versions from arturia, but repro 1 is one of my favorite synths. Its all over my most recent album

So what’s the answer to the blind test?
I liked A and D almost equally, followed by B then C.

I have the hardware P10. The Rev4. I think if I had any advice to impart it would to say buy the P5 instead if you make EDM primarily like I do (techno, hardgroove, trance, UK garage/2step etc). I thought I would use the 10 for things like classic sounds and pads etc but I don't use it for that at all. Where I think it shines is modern type sounds, reese bases, leads etc. It almost lives in mono or unison modes. I could have saved $1000 or so had I known that before so hopefully this helps someone. I hardly ever use it in polyphonic duties which may seem weird but when you hear it you'll understand it makes sense.

I am late. another good release from cherry audio. i love synths that are just like "thing but times 2" my primary hardware synth is a hydrasynth deluxe for that reason

Think I prefer A but they are all pretty good. Like you, I like having more options giving me creative freedom all in one place. So for me its Arturia.

This synth is probably one of the new ones, that will will see in V Collection 11 in May '25, along with some older synth vst rewrites and maybe a new modular synth model that incorporates some parts from their different existing instruments - imo.

Cherry Audio is Arturia wo the extra funding sort of. Nothing like Pigments kind of stuff tho’ They Cherry folks are super nice and the main dev is a HUGE vintage synth nerd. Wait! Maybe they’re more like GForce as their founder Dave is ALSO a huge synth nerd. So yup I don’t need any more emulation atm. Looking to get to the next thing, but MAYBE if I made a P11… you know… it goes to 11! 😂

Repro > Model 80 > Messiah > Prophet V > P-10...

Don’t forget that Memorymoon has the Messiah, and for years this has come bundled with the basic version of Mixcraft.
