Depending on your pay 50 is literally less than 5 hours of work. For those who get more than 15 an hour that's less than 3 hours of work

I remember i had a boss who would give employees who worked extra days gift cards on top of their overtime pay and he would buy the $100 gift cards with his own money not the company's until the company fired him claiming this practice would "make employees waste time on their scheduled days so they get OT and a gift card" even though these cards were only given out to people who covered shifts on their days off

Company store credit 🤣 this ain’t new they tried this 100 years ago.

To separate issues: 1. Underpayment of their wage and 2. “Payment” not on actual money.

Amazon gift cards also don't get taxed as if they were wages. Therefore, both the boss, and employees who accepted this, are guilty of tax evasion.

You also can't pay income taxes in gift cards. Last year i worked for an org that gave bonuses in gift cards and then reported them as income as independent contractor to the IRS. So i paid double income taxes on it. Like, if you're going to do tax fraud, commit and actually do the tax fraud 🙄 (moral statement, not legal advice)

Avoiding time and a half when weeks go sunday to saturday

My company likes to place us on "stand by" or "working" on the weekend but then often call people off the day of. It seems like being on call to me since we are to show up unless called off. So difficlut to make any weekend plans or use pto. Would like any thoughts on the matter.

Unless it is given to you on top of your pay for something you did. I know some people get a $5 break card for the store they work at if they stay overtime, come in to cover a call out, or clean up any bodily fluids

I did the math for my boss on how the gift cards he was giving for doing extra work was less than minimum wage when u broke it down lol

If you buy enough gift cards, you can get a discount. Why companies give gift cards as gifts around Christmas time instead of extra money.

I have an incredible story with many impartial whitnessess who will confirm its absolutely the most insane story of abuse they have ever heard from an employer. I still havent recieved any justice and im too disabled to get help or be able to put the pieces together myself to seek the help i need.... I was almost murdered by my employer and was robbed for an entire years wages... I need help

The gift card should have been a bonus on top of reg/ overtime pay.

As a one time or bonus arrangement it would be ok. Regular payment in gift cards is a no go.

I don't mind Amazon for small jobs because I used them to buy headset, laptop, etc. But, I would not want $1k+ as payment .

If my boss tried to pitch that i think i might start laughing. I would also resign effective immediately because despite its humor, i will not work for a joke like that.
