My husband is a plumber and loves Darn Tough socks. They are perfect for the New England winters too.

I live in the Pacific Northwest, and that Frog Tog is essential. Our rain forests are beautiful...and humid, and we see *a lot* of rain. I'm talking nine months of the year. You need good rain gear.

I have had trekking poles for over 5 years and have used them all over Ohio, Iceland and Hawaii. Last year when I had some medical challenges affect my balance and stamina I put road trips on my trekking poles and used them as a mobility aid. They really are a great tool on and off trail!

Sawyer Water filter and frogg togg jacket are now on my list. And yes trekking poles are amazing along with darn tough socks.

Good list. You should also consider a backpack. And maybe some shoes.

I’ve had sawyer water cleaning system for YEARS and it’s never failed me anymore than needing to buy a replacement bag. I know filters should still get changed now and then, but man it’s compact, simple to use, Sawyer is a game changer.

Frog toggs are really great, I used mine on a four day rouge rafting trip and it kept me dry even in the kayak. Only reason I opted for better gear (goretex) is because I didn’t like having to retreat the DWR on the jacket so often. Still have the frog togg and let friends use it when they have no rain gear or windbreaker.

My first set of “trekking poles” were downhill ski poles. I got some ski poles for a couple bucks from a thrift store that were the correct length for my use. I then removed the snow baskets, and the plastic handles. I then wrapped the top (where the handle is) in handlebar tape meant for the drop bar bicycle handlebars. They worked really well, didn’t weigh much of anything and were extremely durable (I used them for self-arrest glissading with no issue). I did have to bend them back into shape a time or two.

Mostly agree, got my froggs, poles, darn tough, tried the Sawyer mini, switched to befree, but will try the squeeze next, I like my Vargo Triad it's lighter and so are solid fuel tablets and I Can use alcohol, or sticks in a pinch, still not sure about canister, but I understand most love it.

Its definitely more expensive than the sawyer filter, but the best filter I've used is the MSR trail base filter. Just scoop up some water in the bag(10 liter capacity) and let gravity do all the work. It's a lot faster than you expect and you can pump the water as well

Yep, that’s a great list. I have been a mountaineering instructor with the military and have taught survival since 1987 and more lately bushcraft. This is a good list of some critical fundamentals. That Sawyer is a great piece of kit. You can actually add an additional inline filter to get the water even more pure. That said, there is no substitute for boiling. Water should be boiled at a proper rolling boil for ten minutes at sea level and for an extra minute above sea level to ensure all the nasty we critters in there are killed. Just let it cook off and then bottle it.

It's bone dry here for 10 months of the year, everything is a fire hazard - EVERYTHING you suggested just doesn't apply! That's what I love about hiking. It's never the same anywhere else. Here you want 2 pairs of light socks for blisters, low cut shoes as they keep grass seeds out better than boots, lightweight water bottles, mylar blankets for shade (yes, trees are scarce) and eat salted nuts for energy and electroltes - so no stoves!

My froggies ripped fast into my first long trail hike in 2017… since then I’ve realized you will never be dry and to get a compactor bag and a hyperlite if you wanna retain dry gear. EZ to hike your clothes back to dry

I got all of these as a beginner so I guess I'm set! Only difference is that I got a North face rain jacket cus it was like $100 dollars off at REI. Gid bless their sales

Got all of those for my hike. Minus the rain jacket.

I use hollow brand socks, froggs and toggs are super nice, I have yet to get a canister stove I usually pack trail snacks and eat meals at the fires for when I stop to sleep, and trekking poles are a phenomenal investment I agree with this video 100%

I’m literally wearing those exact darn tough socks right now

Bro I got two ideas one ..pole ends that mark your tracks by stamping the ground and a place to put your stamp on the log book so you can be tracked ....no one gets lost that way removable and youalenot personal to your self like your name you have a signe or a stamp ....and it tells your directions and also counts your know like bread crumbs second ....soils that go over women's nmboot for men too but just to change the tread up so it appears she is a bigger male and can't be tracked by her small foot prints . I think of these things where made .. and something kinda like a clay more accept camera....I think that it would have life's that and a helium kite wing that you can deploy that has a built antenna and pints down where you at while also being an emergency becone.. so it'll fold up like a dry bag and where it snaps will be where the wind is so when the wind blows ..it flys better .. of there no wind then a CO2 type deployment pops up a 50 meter ballone with a cell antenna in it that flashes and is gps. you can get signal and be seen no matter what....

Frog toggs can go round for round with any other nice gear tbh. I like their stuff a lot more than many of the boujee options because of how basic they are and how common too. Any Walmart has them and they fit great over any clothing
