I used to be homelessness for many years I know how it feels but now I have a 1 bedroom Apartment 5 years later and now I am sober from drugs

I live and am impacted by this problem near Johnson Creek in Portland. The creek is full of wildlife and trash everywhere a camper sets up. I've been slapped, pushed and verbally assaulted when I try to get a trespasser out of my garbage or recycling. Sadly, these incidents drain any compassion I once had out of me. I just returned from Philly. One kid lives near Kensington. It is so horrific there, I pray our civic leaders get a grip on the drug problem, before Tranq gets established here. May God have mercy on Portland.

This has been going on years. The only thing the government has done is run these people off. They should go across the border and come back in. They would get all kinds of assistance.

I lived in northwest Portland in 1983-84
I had a view of the Freemont bridge and Mt St hellens .
I put my ex wife thru grad school. I worked at evergreen stage l I best and got to drive a bus all over the pacific northwest. I loved being there and it was quiet and serene .
I guess the times have changed and appear to be getting worse thanks to the treasonous government in place now. If your happy the way things are... vote for obiden .

My father was a drug dealer, drug user, former prison inmate, wife/child beater. Somehow I've never used drugs and at 55 years old, still haven't even tasted alcohol. I made the decision early to never try anything. You don't try it, you can't like it! I feel sorry for SOME of these people, but EVERYONE makes their own decisions and responsible for their OWN actions. End of story.

I want this problem to get better but it really pisses me off when I see homeless people turn their camps into literal landfills of garbage. The trash accumulated is disgusting. You can't tell me that they don't have access to a place to throw away garbage because they spend half their time digging through dumpsters and trash cans.

One of my best friends was born and raised in Salem OR. He backpacked cross country and picked up odd jobs. He did just as many drugs as these people but he found God and cleaned his act up. If he can do it I imagine these folks can as well.

At the end of the day as a recovering addict. There are homeless that are out there by other means that are out of their control but some of them want to be homeless. This guy is making a difference. Good stuff.

Portland is #2 in homelessness and we know what city get's the award for being #1 !My friends wanted to send their twins to PSU they came for a visit despite my warning . They had a couple mentally ill people screaming at them, while shopping downtown .Shocked by the homelessness, tents garbage graffiti They checked out of their hotel early and left .

My heart goes out to these people who live out there but look at the garbage that they acquire. They don't even have the common decency to clean up after themselves. Put metal in bins like bike frames and stuff and taking recycle it. Throw the garbage into bins or fire drums so it can be burned. No they just throw it wherever the hell they want. That's what upsets the public. It's not that you're homeless. It's that you leave behind chaos.
