You can look at "the same but worse" as choosing your difficulty.

The game offers characters that are harder and easier to use than others, and challenging yourself to use a specific character on a specific micro game, is part of what will give this game replayability.

Why would you use 9-volt who can only skate left to right instead of roboMike who can fly? For the challenge, duh. You ever played a WarioWare before? Part of the fun of many of the previous titles is replaying the mini-games you get used to with a twist.

They probably know the characters are unbalanced, but it just adds more variety the microgames
