What are the best cards in the cEDH format? Well here is my list of what would be the power 9 in my opinion.

I like your take. I’d still argue Sol Ring and Cradle are pretty broken rituals as well (using your carpet argument). Cradle doesn’t even use the stack.

So glad you didn’t include Jeweled Lotus in this list. It’s great, but this list seems pretty proper to me. Carpet is a must in typical multiplayer games, but I usually replace it with more removal or rituals when playing 1v1.

Another fun one that hoses blue decks is Snake Pit. It is a 4 drop enchantment that reads "Whenever an opponent plays a blue or black spell, you may put a 1/1 green snake creature token into play." like carpet of flowers it is very good to have even if it is a 4 drop as if you are in green you can ramp anyways plus the odds of it seeing value in any game is really high since there is a high chance that the other 3 are playing a blue and or black deck so even outside of a Snake Tribal it is a really good card that would actually be a high priority to counter spell. If they let it go through who knows if the person has a sac outlet to generate mana off of those snakes but worse case is the person gets ran over by Snakes especially if there is a black player at the table as well then that would be really dangerous as they are not just getting snakes off of your counter spells so the possiblity of them running everyone over with snakes becomes real especially if they Triumph of the heard give them all infect and saved a Guttural Response for your blue counter spell so Triumph resolves

However they might opt for a Veil of Summer as it makes your spells encounterable at instant speed and if the enemy played a blue or black spell you draw a card while also giving your permanents hexproof, they would opt for this over both Guttural Response and this if they don't have access to red in the commander's colors as Guttural Response is a hybrid of red and or green and we all know how annoying Hybrid mana is in terms of a cards color identity

I prefer vamp tutor over demonic, the fact that it's an instant is great

Imo Sol Ring and Thoracle should be on this list. The first card I'd swap is probably Ranger-Captain and the other one idk.

Feels like a travesty that Mox diamond sol ring and chrome Mox are left off the list. Those along with mana crypt are often in 99+% of decks including decks running bull rod and collector ooph.

If I had to make my own list it would probably be a lot of the same cards but maybe changing the order. Gaea’s cradle could be argued for but it really requires too much set up to really be that fast. The only tutor that can grab it reliably for cheap enough is crop rotation.

I would say maybe #9 would be Adnaus instead of j lotus. I could honestly see time twister not making the list for cedh too

Did you know some of the newer magda builds don't run underworld? we run elixir of immortality since we want to tutor them to the battle field over casting the from grave! but we do run some of the goblins that bring out the artifacts we discard to the field cause one treasure for a cards seems better to us.

Do you follow comedianmtg? He has awesome videos about top 8 or 4 of tournaments and it’s been so cool to see the rise of midrange and stax. The meta is so fun. Winconless stax can actually perform well with all of the crazy stax pieces nowadays.
