Betaflight 4.2 OSD Disappeared & Upload Font Not Working

Betaflight 4.2 has made a change that means your OSD doesn't work or your upload font button doesn't work sometimes. I'll tell you the fix, and the reason behind the change.

Oh man, finally I was able to get rid of this jumbo font from OSD. Thanks so much for this one JB. I couldn't figure out why the font manager button was disabled even after I plugged a LiPo in. Now I know I need to plug-in the LiPo before connecting the MSP via the USB cable....so unintuitive BF team.

The idea of not having the MAX7456 chip powered off USB as well is just absurd, yet many FCs are designed this way. Even more common than FCs that don't power the RX on USB power. I don't want to cook my stack on the bench while setting up receiver, modes, or OSD by having to plug in the battery and powering the VTX in the way.

It took me a while looking for the option to load source since the option to do so was not presented to me and thanks to your video I was able to know, I connected the battery and then the usb and thus I was able to enable the option to load source and be able to see the osd in glasses. Thank you

There is one more case. Forcing the osd_displayport_device to be MSP, will keep the analog osd chip from being activated. So, if you want to go back to analog and have checked everything else here the osd_displayport_device must be set to AUTO, osd_displayport_device=AUTO, save, then reboot and it's good. This is a problem you may run into if you are switching a quad from HDzero/DJI back to analog.

Update for Betaflight 4.4: Check in CLI if "osd_displayport_device = MSP". If then set it temporarily to "AUTO" and "save". Upload desired font. Go to CLI again and set "osd_displayport_device = MSP".

hi i bought F4 2-4S AIO Brushless Flight Controller 20A v3, but i can't get the osd to work properly, basically the home direction symbol doesn't come out and the starting point doesn't work I tried to change the font, but the direction symbol house if it sees a hyphen as the minus - nopn the arrow ... I also inserted the battery but it does not change the character anyway. I have updated the firmware to the latest version, but it still doesn't work. I installed the gps on softserial, only the altitude satellites appear but not the home direction arrow and the meters for the home points. I use the hd caddx system

Hey Joshua, I built my first quad late last year using the DJI setup with the NewBeeDrone Infinity stack because I am bad at soldering. I've noticed a few pilots like yourself use the DJI FPV camera and goggles but don't use the DJI Controller. Is this something you do out of preference or is there a benefit in anyway? I've always wondered if you get better signal/range to the goggles if the Air Unit only has to worry about sending video and not have to deal with input from the controller.

Great content as always. Working on getting my quad to 4.2 and getting my logo to pop up when arming. :)

ciao ho acquistato F4 2-4S AIO Brushless Flight Controller 20A v3, ma non riesco a far funzionare correttamente l'osd, praticamente il simbolo della direzione di casa non viene fuori e il punto di partenza non funziona Ho provato a cambiare il carattere, ma la casa simbolo di direzione se vede un trattino come il meno - nopn la freccia ... Ho inserito anche la batteria ma non cambia comunque il carattere. Ho aggiornato il firmware all'ultima versione, ma continua a non funzionare. Ho installato il gps su softserial, compaiono solo i satelliti di altitudine ma non la freccia di direzione home e i metri per i punti home. Uso il sistema hd caddx

looks like for the airbotF4 there is a bug. no matter what i do, the font manager is greyed out and powering before plugging usb does nothing. on 4.1.7 everything is fine. no osd on 4.2.2. also the ntsc/pal selection is gone. any other ideas how to fix it in 4.2.2? 4.3 has the same thing going on..
