Why You Need 2 Different Jumpshots

In this video I describe the need for two different styles of basketball shots. One motion, early release timing VS two motion, late release timing. After my recent video breaking down the top 50 NBA three point shooters by volume, I wanted to clarify how I feel about the other style of shot that we see in the NBA and, in fact, at all levels of the game, including the WNBA, high school, and overseas ball. Enjoy!

This is so true. This is y u don’t see Harden and curry shooting turnaround fadeaways. And this is y Klay Thompson sometimes struggles from mid range. This is y derozan cant hit threes. Nice vid explained very well

I have a friend who shoots before he jumps. 0 motion shot.

I already had two shots and it was working but I wanted to make sure that two shots is actually a thing

I’ve always thought of this. Crazy that you made a vid on it. This is why I believe that kyrie Irving has the best shot form in the league

klay looks like he has basically the same shot in midrange except he raises his setpoint in midrange

I just started using two different jumpshots one for mid range and one for three! Perfect timing.

I've always thought this, and especially with Curry, he doesn't have the second type, late release shot. This is why you never see him taking fadeaways and mid-range jumpshots in traffic (unless he's open off a pick or something), which I think really limits his true offensive potential.

This is exactly what I was thinking of just recently! There is no way to shoot a mid-range shot without some hang time, it HAS to be a 2 motion shot! At the same time a 3 point shot can easily be a one motion shot for the same person. Someone finally pointed that out!

Ive realized i have 2 types of shots (3s vs in the paint) glad to know it may actually be a positive thing!

I’m a balanced type player... i like hitting threes and i also love the mid range, that’s why i learn from a lot of mid range specialists like Melo.. it’s important to be versatile and shoot from three point range and also have a good mid range game- like fadeaways and contested mid range shots.i prioratise in having early release timing from three so i can get my shot off quick and efficient and i use late release timing to elevate over deffenders to not get my shot blocked or affected because i’m 5”9😁

Amazing video Seumas! Glad I could inspire this video! Can’t wait to talk more about this in the future! Great analysis

I'm glad someone else noticed this phenomenon about shooting ! I would also like to add that you should also have 2 different set points from 2 and 3.For example if you shoot a wide open 3 your set point is probably somewhere around nose / forehead area, but for contested 2's it is better for the set point to be at least above the forehead, so u avoid getting blocked and you transfer power easier.

Kobe used two motion to shoot 3s, which in my opinion, was a piece of beautiful artwork too

I never heard someone explaining this ever. I totally agree with this concept. Eversince, I practice jump shot in the midrange (releasing the ball on the top of my jump) while doing an early release shot in a longer range. It is just a little difficult to master both with consistency because of a different type of shot.

Devon booker is also a really good example of this

When practising 3s and mid-range, I just could never figure out why I couldn't get the hang of both types of shots at the same time. Optimal mechanics for each shot just felt drastically different. This video has 100% unravelled this mystery for me. Awesome video, totally agree that 2 types of shots are needed.

I find changing my shot from one motion to two motion very awkward, so I’ve been training to master my floater for close midrange ( up to around 10-15 feet from the hoop ) then for deeper midrange I noticed my one motion still works fine
