Do cruise gratuities really go to the workers?

A few cruise workers mentioned they don’t see most of the tips cruise passengers charge to their room daily. Where does that money really go? While we’re figuring that out, we’ve decided to cancel our room gratuities and drop cash around the ship and the islands ourselves. #cruisetips #cruisehacks #cruisevacation

I have been told by some crew members that they don’t get anything extra aside of their Monthly Salary. We usually tip them cash individually, Room stewards, at the restaurants, buffet and other places we use their services. Don’t add additional tips to your bar tab or restaurant tab, just give them cash, it’s better, even better than giving them a gift like candy, chocolate or snacks, they rather have the money so they can buy whatever they need. 😉😁😢

Daughter just filed a class action lawsuit against a large chain for this. Bahamas doesn’t have class action law suits

All worked and the nicer hotels in our city. tip sometimes were stolen by the guy who deals with the luggage and buy the supervisors, yeah that was a hard lesson to learn. When's the NFL Fitz left hanging on the light switch changing. And here you're making three four dollars an hour and then somebody steals your tips. So if you can always send it to the maid. That might be the only money, she'll have to eat on

I do the same thing. I don't drink so no need in me tipping a bartender. My room Steward get at least 100. And then I tip guys burgers and the pizza shop.

Some cruise ships are terrible and nobody deserves a tip regardless of which form.

The tips go to crew that perform services for all guests. Officers do not participate. Crew that work in areas that are not used by all guests are tipped out when guests use the service, bar, spa, salon, babysitting, casino etc. By tipping directly you are not tipping galley, laundry, deck dept etc. Crew that work hard that you do not see. These are old wives tales that the money is paid out to executives etc. Tips collected are paid out to crew based upon the number of days they were working on the duration of the cruise as crew changes out on longer cruises. How do I know this? Two years in revenue management and 22 years progressing from junior assistant purser to hotel general manager.

I’m really not sure what goes on, but I do this.

I personally get full adjustment/ tip money back- 2 days before cruise is over.
I tip very well, my cabin steward and waiting crew, that we have each night.
Also, anyone that deserves such.
It’s just what we do, to each their own

Royal Caribbean expressly prohibits anyone from filming interviews with crew that have anything to do with gratuities. I wonder why...

On a Princess Cruise ship now! Asked 3 crew membrs about them receiving the included gratuities in our cruise price. All three said it was part of their pay????. I pay the mandatory gratuities but gift extra to staff giving that extra, cah in hand, in their services to me.

*I'll tip a dollar or two every time I get some drinks.
*I'll tip my waiter.
*I'll tip people at the port

The first time I did that back in '06 I told them to take it off and they didn't. It took me 3 days to realize it and they would not refund me my money. Make sure they do it right in front of you then confirmed that they did it, then make them confirmed that they did it. Then record them saying they did it lol

I asked my executive casino host how the princess casino cruise offer crew appreciation was applied and his answer was that it went to the people that we would normally be leaving a tip for so if I didn't leave extra cash, they wouldn't be getting screwed over for their efforts.

If they really got those tips their pay wouldn't still be crap with the lower paid jobs.
