Thanks for teaching this. Really good info here, great close ups, easy explain. Just get to the point faster. Oh, guitar background music was perfect. The other piece you used, not so good. Let's hope this works on our tractor. We have a bucket arm in the way.

I'd like to throw this out there to see if you or your subscibers has some advice. I have a Wisconsin VG4D engine in an International Harvester skid steer manufactured in 1978. It quit starting so I had the starter rebuilt. I got it reinstalled and it still did not start. I was able to jump the solenoid and get it to start so I repaced the solenoid. still nothing when I use the key. Starter works fine if I jump the solenoid, but when I use the key I get nothing, not even a click. (I also replaced the ignition switch) Thanks for the video and for any input you might have.

Hey Bud, just got a 4000 series 74 Ford looks like yours. Was wired as positive ground🙄 and they were jumping it from hot to the starter to start it😳. I replaced the regulator and solenoid as well as the main wires from battery to solenoid /starter. Also replaced instrument cluster and got new key switch. Attached the battery terminals and regulator started buzzing so I disconnected the battery. When I disconnected the lead from the positive terminal of the coil to the “I” terminal of the Solenoid the buzzing stopped. Then, because it was getting dark outside, I noticed the generator idiot light barely lit. I felt the bigger wire at the generator and it was hot, so I disconnected the battery. I noticed the low idiot generator light even when all wires to the key switch were removed.

I will have to replace my starter also. Ford 4000, bought it from some tractordealer in Pretoria. It was nicely painted, though the paint was hiding a lot of crap. Nothing but problems with that tractor. Had to replace the hydraulic pump, lift worked well for a few days, now it is down again. Starter is on the list now. Tyres will be for next year. Anyone experience on the hydraulics?

I also removed my bad starter on a kubota l175 and wires were ripped and burned, now i dont know how the smaller ones go together

Is it possible that a bad solenoid could cause poor sparking ? I’ve done a lot to my 601 and for whatever reason it no longer likes to fire up on the first shot. So idk where else to look for its problem

Hello, I have a 1963 4000 4cyl diesel. my starter stopped engaging and I replaced it but I also replaced my old 3 terminal starter relay/solenoid with a 4 post but I didnt document how it previously was wired. how did you wire yours? diesels do not have starter coil.

You forgot one of the most important steps and that is to disconnect the battery first before removing the starter.
