You seem smart Grant and obviously yearn to know why golds price doesn't rise. Why not try and understand FOFOAs perspective; freegold? Gold obviously is not useful for anything except store of value. It is therefore not a commodity. The applications you mention can and will use substitutes. Gold will never be used up. It's price is arbitrary and does not have objective, supply-demand metrics. It is a wealth reserve that can be revalued without affecting the price of other necessities and industries. If someone like you digs into it you can then teach laymen like myself about GLD coatcheck theory vs natural arb. Which I do not understand.
