National Ambassador for Young People's Literature Kate DiCamillo appears at the 2014 Library of Congress National Book Festival in Washington, D.C.
Speaker Biography: The National Ambassador for Young People's Literature of the Library of Congress and the Children's Book Council, Kate DiCamillo is the recipient of the 2014 Newbery Medal for her latest novel, "Flora & Ulysses: The Illuminated Adventures" (Candlewick Press). This is DiCamillo's second Newbery, which the American Library Association confers for the "most distinguished contribution to American literature for children." The award is one of the most prestigious in young people's literature. DiCamillo also won the Newbery for "The Tale of Despereaux" in 2004. Her first published novel, "Because of Winn-Dixie," won a Newbery Honor. She says of stories: "When we read together, we connect. Together, we see the world. Together, we see each other." DiCamillo's new book is "Leroy Ninker Saddles Up: Tales from Deckawoo Drive, Volume One."
