They ARE the best dogs! Both of mine are very smart, alert and playful. Both are going on 11 y/o. Many interesting facts about the breed!

Chiwawa’s are also scavenger type dogs. And they tend to burrow a lot of the time under blankets and clothes because they were bred to chase out small rodents out of small tight places. I was also told they chased out Prairie dogs out of the tight holes.

My Chihuahua, Sonya, who is 10, is my ESA dog. She helps mitigates my bipolar and anxiety disorder by forcing me to pet her or cuddling up in my lap to make her presence known.

I enjoyed this video very much. I have loved Chihuahuas all my life. My parents finally got me one when I was 12 and I have not been without a Chihuahua since. I am now 67. I belong to several Chihuahua groups and organizations. The deer type Chihuahua is actually closer to the original breed that came from Mexico. The apple head, short nose and stockier body have been bred into them by breeders trying to make them even smaller. Many dog breeds have altered body types due to over zealous breeders and it is never beneficial to the dog.

I have an adorable deer head chihuahua named Fizzgig and he is the love of my life. I just wanted to comment because you said potty training was hard for the breed. I have to say I don't find that to be true in our case. He is so smart and learned really fast where he was allowed to go potty which is outside. We had maybe a total of 5 accidents in the house before he was fully trained. Which I think is pretty good. It just takes alot of patience and timing when they are puppies. Frequent potty trips (every 1 to 1 and a half hours) while they are learning helps. After they get the idea you can start spreading the time further apart like 2 hours 2 and a half hours etc. Now he is 7 months old and is crated at night for sleeping. And as soon as we wake up we go out. No issues ever. I love my chi so much!!

My chihuahua is an angel, almost never barks or bites and always looks sorry when she bites. Also she is potty trained, she can hold it for almost 7 hours!

Chihuahuas are VERY easy to potty train with a kitty litter box. Of course, you may want to tell your Chi that the picture of the kitty on the bag of kitty litter is just a funny looking doggie! ;) Worked for us! Don't know what I'd do without my "Chew-WOW-WOW"!
