Take the laces out and condition the tongue as well. Use less Vaseline and melt it into the leather with a hairdryer. Rub it in by hand while it is still warm. Leave overnight and then buff with a damp polishing cloth. Some say petroleum is bad for leather although many leather conditioners contain it. Best regards.

I usually use dedicated boot cleaners and oils for my boot maintenance, sometimes even sno seal for water proofing 👍

Thin rubber gloves and flames is not a good combination. Avoid it.

Vaseline is bad for leather (and skin) because of the alcohol and hydroxides in it. It will dry out the leather. (In wound care, we use a medical grade petroleum jelly that doesn’t have those volatile compounds.) As previously stated, use a leather conditioner or mink oil to restore the boots. Note that if your shoes weren’t originally water proofed, the mink oil is likely to darken them SLIGHTLY. If that’s a concern - and you don’t need them to be water proof - use a regular conditioner. For fine leathers (dress shoes) or very dry leather, use Saphir Renovatuer.

I honestly dont understand what the difference is between say mink oil and vaseline..Seems like it is an easy accessable product to use.

Do not put petroleum products on leather boots unless you want to destroy them

I need help. I bought a $169 pair of leather Ariat work boots and after wearing them in the snow and water, they shrunk or tightened up. Hurts just to wear them.
