They poured over 800, 000 pounds of this stuff in the creek which feed the large Cling River of Tennessee. It can never be completely cleaned up. The rest of it is in the ground or just dumped into the forests nearby.

When we were kids growing up in Oak Ridge we weren’t allowed to play in the creeks because they were so full of mercury. My dad worked at K-25, Y-12 and X-10(ORNL) for over 25 years. I still have the fancy clock that Union Carbide gave him for his 25 year anniversary. He died of cancer when I was 10, real shocker. I can only imagine what all he was exposed to over all those years. He was a dedicated government worker. Never complained, I have no idea what he did out there and he never would have told me or anyone else. Another weird thing about growing up in Oak Ridge was it wasn’t uncommon to have guys in black suits show up at your house and ask random questions about your neighbors. Lots of guys with Q clearances living in Oak Ridge.
