I am not a chemist neither an engineer, I am a technician ( Grease monkey)and I work on cars for many years, what I’ve seen over the years (some cases)broken cats from inside making rattle noises, melted ones from overheating due to engine misfiring pushing raw fuel through the exhaust along with all other emissions that burned in the catalyst, some cases head gasket or intake plenum gasket failure caused internal antifreeze (cooling system)leak into exhaust system through valve’s then trapped inside catalyst

the downside of this technology is that over time, the catalytic converter will be useless due to the deactivation of the active precious metal to avoid this we can develop a regeneration system for the active catalyst which enables them to self-regeneration after it is used for long time.

in a large period is a headache the best thing a downpipe up to the motor, this new sheets including the EGR in a large period of time start to fail, and you think that is the motor but its a computer automatic response when they start to fail.
