Whether you’re purchasing a natural or a lab grown diamond it’s good to know the basics of diamond theory so that you have confidence in your purchase.
The 4Cs—color, clarity, cut and carat weight—are used in combination to determine the quality of a diamond. Here's our guide to the 4Cs so that you can become a more informed while shopping for your diamond ring!

1. Carat: A carat is actually a measurement of weight, and not size, as it’s often confused for. Generally the higher the diamond carat weight, the larger its size, however that’s not always true.
2. Color: By nature diamonds should be white or ‘colorless’ but the presence of other chemicals can affect its color. The color scale goes from D to Z, with D being the highest, more colorless shade.
3: Clarity: You can often find inclusions or blemishes within the stone when using magnification. The clarity refers to how prominent these imperfections are.
4: Cut: Arguably the most important 'C'. Gives the diamond its sparkle!
