Fact 1: This palace is the biggest imperial place in the world, it is three times larger than the Louvre Palace in France.
Fact 2: scientists had made an earthquake experiment with wooden replica of the palace, built without glue or nails. Under magnitude 10.1, the building had just moved a little bit and didn't collapse.
Fact 3: In the legend, the palace contains 9, 999 and half rooms in this huge city. But through research, the city contains at 8, 700 rooms.
Fact 4: Puyi, the last emperor of China, is the youngest emperor in china's history. He became the emperor at 3 years old and abdicated at 6, which is at 1912. After the 2 world wars and the civil war, he became a common resident in the People's Republic of China, and he need to buy a ticket to enter his old home, the forbidden city(at that time the palace become a tourist attraction)
Fact 5: the city was a home for 24 emperors.
Fact 6: it would take a few day to explore the whole city(even no eating and no sleep). But even you done exploring, there are another 10 - 20% that hasn't been opened to public yet.
Fact 7: The city is 144 hour visa free to visit.

Being a Chinese, I have been there only once, the buildings are magnificent, but it's almost empty due to the war in the 19th and 20th centuries. Think back to the glory one hundred years ago with so many treasures in that golden palace.

Fun fact: the summer palace is as magnificent as the forbidden city, if British-French joint armies didn’t rob it and burn it down.

Excellent. An awful lot of history went by in that place. Fascinating. I recognised a couple of scenes from one of Kurasawas movies.

During the Qing dynasty, the Chinese royal palace is much larger than just a forbidden city. Used to have 内城(inner city) surrounding the 皇城(royal city), forbidden city is the core of royal palace that surrounding by royal city. Royal city ≈8X size of the forbidden city. 3 layers, inner-city, royal city and most inside the forbidden city.

I’ve been there last December 2019 and it was superb! Though, being on a winter trip I expect less crowd. However, it was nice to see what’s inside and it truly is a beauty.
