Charging off grid batteries using an automobile alternator. How to properly convert an alternator so you can charge your batteries off grid. here I give an overview of the conversion process of building a good battery charger for off grid systems my previous attempts at using an alternator all failed due to over heating issues I was having. it wasn't until I came up with this idea of controlling the field current that I was able to use this long term. I've also converted an alternator to use for a wind turbine without making it permanent magnet. On a victron youtube they said if an alternator is not spinning fast enough it can overheat, they also use devices to limited amperage output. I like the potentiometer idea

I’ve attempted to do exactly what you’ve done, “ Great Job “ “ You’re Wisdom with the Field current “ I’ve got 2 new Gm 10SI High Amp Alternators 110A which appear to be 3 Phases coming out of the Stator & a Ford / Mazda escape 150A appears to be a 5 Phases that the copper leads come off the stator, I have a 3 phase rectifier 600W, I’ve bought multiple low gauges in Romeo 0, 1, 2, 6 - I tried to buy what I thought I might need but You’re system is perfect ! My inverter is 48v my BMS’s are 48v & my Battery Bank is 48v but I am having difficulty finding a 48v replacement voltage regulator for my Gm 10SI Alternator or how to finagle the wiring to charge 48v at the highest Amperage up to 100A for my lithium Battery Bank and I’ve seen somebody on YouTube run it out of public electricity to their house he said wiring off the stator creator 115 V at 90 A which I have not been able to confirm that he had two alternators running his house off grid ! You’re System Is Fantastic ! I would love to get how you designed it especially the field current !

Use a 24v alternator. Bypass the internal regulator. Connect the 3 phases in series with one winding reversed. This will give you about 100v single phase. Rectify with Schottky diodes. Send through MPPT controller. This will give you 3-4x more power. You're welcome

Homemade waterwheel or solar tube heater from scrap material would be nearly free energy but this just burns gasoline instead of grid electricity. Anyway, cool vid!

Have you tried to wire straight to the stator o a GM 1 wire 10 SI - the window above the rear bearing 3 copper wires produce 2.000 + watts Ac current ! By-passing the Alternator converting it to Dc 12v

Love the idea brother, but i think it would make more sense to have a alternator turned into an electric motor to run everything, and or a gasification system for wood gas then you wouldn't need gasoline sir. What do you think?
