My father owed a whole sale car dealership all my life (55 years) and counting. I will never forget what he told me when I was a kid and when the lease first came out. He said after all the payments are made all you have is a pile of receipts to show for it. No money and no car.

I am perfectly happy In the middle class after growing up dirt poor. I have everything I want and need, now it’s just matinence mode to stay here or improve.

I always buy reliable used cars at the end of their depriciation curve. Still driving a 2008 Prius. Got it with 100k miles for 5k. Put 100, 000 miles on it, 50 mpg, and no repairs. Just oil and tires.
