And having like the journal work as a beastiary with info on all the enemies
Especially if let’s say you have access to it all at the beginning of the game, but it’s encoded. And you can either sit down and crack the codes yourself if you want to or go out and explore, finding hints and parts of cipher keys

Also it would give a really cool feeling when your later in the game and have some entries memorized and you see a troll and just go “troll, weak to X, though be carful of its nose, as it has a good sense of smell” like some old monster hunter
