Broooo I’m pretty sure my dog thinks the dremel is actually a finger grinder 😂😂

only recently started grinding my 13 year old's nails. started off with leaving the dremel near him while i pet him, then i turn it on, and leave it, then i touch him with the dremel running, then i put him on his side like i'm going to use clippers but with the dremel instead. now he's practically asleep while i take my time with all his nails

Tugged at the heart to see doggo trembling ALTHOUGH I appreciate this presentation because it’s likely of how a dog may behave. It’s sympathetic to reality and how the nail trimming process may go with your dog/cat/chupacabra/whatever. A fair number of us will have a nervous fur babe. Presenting a less than calm dog is relatable and probably common. See it as a test drive or practice to how your companion could behave. Being aware that a trembling dog may be a thing gives reassurance if your situation presents a trembling dog. Knowing it’s a thing can give confidence to move forward. Notice doggo in the video is not flinching paws, not whimpering? Doggo will be just fine. Besides if the dog were very calm and not trembling someone would complain that’s not realistic. Or if a calm, sitting pretty dog was filmed someone may think that’s how the process will go down creating unrealistic expectations.
Plus, slight stress from a trimming outweighs the quality of life improvement for fur babe and can be treated

Do it when your dog is tired already! I thought my puppy wouldn't like these since she's so difficult with trims but it's so much easier with the dremel

I use the Dremmel and love it. BUT it will superheat the nail if left in contact too long, which can cause a friction burn to the quick when close to it.

That's why he says only hit each nail 2 seconds then move on. This prevents heat from building up.

You can hit all the nails once, then come back for round #2. By then, the first nails are cool again and another 2 seconds won't cause any burning. Complete as many rounds as necessary to get the nail tips close to, but not touching the quick.

I find this way easier and less stressful than using nail clippers and my dog got used to it after only two sessions (with lots of treats).

Love this method. My Makana lays there like it’s a Spa Day.
So much easier than clippers and so much safer. 👍😊

I find if you start handling their paws when they are young, just pretending like your going through the motions, I prep all my pups like this, with every type of handling. It’s actually part of my selection process, handle the pup, if she/he is confident and chills you got a winner, or check at least. For old pups you can do the same thing, just handle their paws more when playing and chilling, pretend to go through the motions. Make grooming time fun, but also be a leader and show your not nervous. We just did this with a senior chihuahua, for a friends neighbor, the littler the dog the more difficult I find, they get stuck in their ways.

Please do a video on how to get started doing using the Dremel on a pup (4mths or more) that refuses both clippers and Dremel. I have only been able to sneak in one or two nails with the clippers when he's really tired but I want so bad to use the Dremel. He's not scared of the sound of it and will come up to it but when I reach for a paw he wants none of that. Please share some tips.

This is why its key to desensitise your dogs to nail grooming ❤ i start from day 1 of bringing pups home

You can purchase a quieter Dremel. This looks intense but is very gentle.

That dog has clearly had its nails cut many times. Using a Dremel or other sanding method is a much scarier feeling for the dog. In addition to holding their feet in place the sound is loud and scary. Not to mention it takes longer per nail to sand vs clip. The only time a sander makes sense is if the dog has dry cracked nails or for big breeds that clipping may not work with one clip per nail.

He's shivering. Most likely because he's extremely nervous. It's best to desensitize to the sound first and let them get acquainted with the tools before you come at them with something that's gonna make them a nervous wreck.
