Lyrics:
In every movie I watch from the '50s
There's only one thought that swirls
Around my head now
And that's that everyone there on the screen
Yeah, everyone there on the screen
Well, they're all dead now
They're all dead now

And it ain't easy living above
And I can't help but keep falling in love
With bones and ashes
With bones and ashes
And when the color is too bold and bright
I'm daydreaming in black and white
Until it passes
Until it passes

I wanna know the measure
From here to forever
And I wanna feel the pressure
Of God or whatever

Oh, these days it's so hard to relax
You gotta hold a gun to my back
To make me smile
To make me smile
And the only way I seem to cope
Is by trying to hold onto hope
If just for a while
If just for a while

I wanna know the measure
From here to forever
And I wanna feel the pressure
Of God or whatever
Now it seems more than ever
There's no hands on the levers
And I wanna feel the pressure
Of God or whatever

Only rollers keep rolling
While the searchers keep scrolling

I wanna know the measure
From here to forever
And I wanna feel the pressure
Of God or whatever
Now it seems more than ever
There's no hands on the levers
And I wanna feel the pressure
Of God or whatever

Or whatever

Our new single, "Here to Forever", is out now along with a new video directed by Lance Bangs! We had a lot of fun filming this one.
"Here to Forever" was the final song written for our new album, appearing just weeks before recording sessions began. We hope you enjoy this second preview of 'Asphalt Meadows', out 9/16!

Ben Gibbard's voice will never cease to entrance me. I'm so lucky to live in a timeline where death cab is still together.

The progression and nuance from DeathC throughout all these years has been an experience. I've grown to appreciate and respect the youthful sincerity and non denatured path of their sound. Never once losing themselves musically is a testament to their authenticity as individuals and as a band. Whimsy, poetic, and raw.

Man I've been listening to death cab since I was 4, I turn 25 next month and I can still jam to new stuff from my favourite band. It seems whatever Ben Gibbard touches turns to gold, I'm yet to hear a bad song.

" these days its so hard to relax, you gotta hold a gun to my back to make me smile, to make me smile, and the only way I seem to cope is by trying to hold on to hope if just for a while, if just for a while"

man, that line hit me hard.

This songs so good- I heard it for the first time when I was having an anxiety attack from existential thoughts- and it summed up what I wanted so badly. It made me feel so much less alone.

'I wanna know the measure.. from Here- to Forever..' has to be one of the most beautifully existential lyrics pondering death and life ever.. so perfectly describing our human condition- can't stop listening to this amazing song!

This sounds like they wrote it 12 years ago, I love it!!

If there is footage of Ben goofing off with the air compressor, it needs to be released immediately.

I think that about older actors when watching older movies too. Good to know I'm not alone in having that wild thought!

So perfect. This feels like old and new death cab in all the right ways. It’s also great to know other people think the same things when looking at old photos. 😂

Bro, I had only heard of Death Cab before, never heard their music until I started my new job at SportChek (where this song plays every day), and I can't get enough. I skateboard to this song every day now. When this song comes through my headphones and I'm on my board, it just helps me focus. I'm ripping out nose manuals for almost a whole block. Just because this dude is like "I wanna know the measure"

“No hands on the lever” sticks with me the most. Sort of exhilarating and daunting all at the same time

My brother just died and this song is what keeps me holding on.

That drum segment leading into the finale is amazing.

When Ben's voice hits and it reminds you of lifetimes past...so excited for the new album and really loving this one.

i'm glad that i can experience what it's like to have dcfc release new music while being a highschooler. after all this time you'd think the music would stop coming, but it hasn't. their music is evidently timeless and it's sweet seeing people say they listened to dcfc as kids, and are now older while new music is coming out -- and the band's music still has great meaning to them :-)

Wasn't as in to "Roman Candles" when it was released, but this one hits it just right for me. Love it. Can't wait for the full album to drop.

Thank you Ben for rolling those sleeves up a little more and jumping in to get us this record sooner.
