If anything, this war has taught the Armies of the world; 1] The extreme importance of logistics and being able to supply proper fuel, ammunition, food, water & having proper provided maintenance for your equipment. 2) Have Modernized militaries, weapon systems & tactics to ensure your Military has a greater chance for success.

Corruption has certainly played a role here too, the widespread and systemic corruption probably has made many of the same type of tank into unique tanks with different capabilites from each other depending on exactly what parts were messed with or removed. Kind of hard to train for this kind of every tank is different. That also ruins the idea of interchangeable parts which would hurt reliability and repairability. Like having fake explosive reactive armor, or non functioning gun sights.

I'm a retired navy guy, but from what I have watched Russia forces do not generally support each other. Tanks/armored vehicles are not supported by ground troops & are easy targets. Little to no air cover & when they do have air cover, they are again easy targets. Lack of training air, ground & sea forces. It is like much of the Russian forces expected to get on the job training in actual combat operations. Result massive equipment & soldier loses. Try picking on a weaker country next time~! Shalom

The report that Putin essentially lives in a bubble for decades seems like an understatement the guy can see american javelins and stingers in action and think "yep those aren't nearly advanced as what we have." with literal wooden models for tanks and planes being used for display because they couldn't build them at all.

theres one very very important aspect we should keep in mind: a great tank can be totally useless if there isn't an equally skilled tank crew. it's well known up to the way, the Russian military has had enormous difficulty in giving their tank crews seat time due to lack or wasted funds

Well...if you use armour in old-fashioned wave attacks or just simply barging through the countryside, you'd have to expect to become Javelin & RPG magnets.

I am Ukrainian and what I can tell about competence is that ᵣussian leadership consists of mafia clan cleptomans who were selected primarily by nepotism and assistance in cryminal schemes. At the same time, though I don't deny many of our own people got to highest rank the same shameful way, though the main ones are highly educated and higly talented. Best example is of course our pride general Zaluzhnyi with triple higher education and traits of true leader who respects ordinary soldiers. That is demonstration of how honesty prevails over corruption.

Its always eye opening to see these kinds of vidoes about the war going on there because while I have been living my life, working everyday trying to stay a float trying not to drown in bills. There has been a war going on where people are actually fighting and dying everyday trying to protect their land from an invading army. I can't even imagine

You need to factor in the fact many troops stationed in Belarus didn’t know they was going to invade until a day or even hours before it happened so many thought it was legitimately training so unit commanders and even regular troops sold fuel and other supplies for a quick buck

Combined arms warfare requires highly trained soldiers, capable NCOs, a clear yet flexible command structure and short lines of communications. The few Russian troops that could potentially pull that off were wasted in the first weeks of the war and now Putin is stuck with a bunch conscripts that barely manage to apply the concept of "point gun toward enemy".

I've heard that some of the lack of support is the result of inter-"branch" rivalries.

The Air Force hated the Tanks. Tanks hated Air. Both hated infantry. Navy does it's own thing. So no one has the first clue on how to coordinate with others even if they wanted to.

Now I don't know this for sure, but it would fit the general incompetence and corruption of the Russian leadership.

One of the reasons Russia isn't supporting their tanks with air support is that the Javelin is also effective against low flying aircraft like helicopters. Russia spent most of their precision guided weapons early in the war, and now their jets must fly low and slow, also making easy targets for the Javelin. If you think they can't repair their tanks because of sanctions, it's 100 times worse for their aircraft.

Ukrainian farm tractors pulling tanks "Nothing pulls tanks like a Deer!". Got to admire Ukrainians' dark humor!

Unmentioned is that Armored crews depend on infantry for protection in many situations and to allow them to perform their missions to the best of their abilities. Russia is not currently known for the competency of its infantry.

Also, T-55s are being used as supplement artillery, not Frontline armor. But Infographics still thinks Bakmut is contested so it's not really reliable.
