This lecture was given on the occasion of the annual Woolf Institute Garden Party 2023
The Right Honourable Baroness Hale is an esteemed judge who served as President of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom from 2017 until her retirement in 2021. She currently serves as a member of the House of Lords as a Lord Temporal. In 1984 she became the first woman to serve on the Law Commission, a statutory body which promotes the reform of the law. There she led the work which resulted (among others) in the Children Act 1989 and the Mental Capacity Act 2005. Baroness Hale joined the Woolf Institute Board of Trustees in 2021 and we are honoured and privileged to have her working with us to promote and sustain the institute’s work.
