Quantize audio tracks in Steinberg Cubase 5 and creating quantize templates

Cubase can take whats called Hitpoints from an audio loop/sample and then convert this into a groove quantize preset, with this preset you can then quantize all your midi parts which in turn can then trigger samplers like battery for drums, so in theory you are taking a groove from a piece of audio then applying it to anything you like in your track, very similar to Midi. You can also extract midi from say a bassline.

Thanks for this; I’ve only started using Cubase 5 for serious multi track recording in the past few months.
But I need some advice.
I don’t use drum loops as such, but play the drum parts manually from my synth.
And because the pattern is constantly changing throughout a song, how do I set the hit points so that it’s correct throughout the song ?

Make sure audio is bounced, then double click to open audio editor, Click VariAudio/, click pitch and warp and then where it says functions select extract midi and it will place a midi file on a new track with all midi data :) Hope this helps, Kind regards Mike

MIKE CAN CUBASE 5 CONVERT AUDIO TO MIDI OR IS THAT ONLY AVAILABLE IN CUBASE 6 +7. ITS A GOOD IDEA TO RECORD IN AUDIO THEN QUANTIZE THEN CONVERT IN MIDI SO YOU CAN RUN YOUR DRUMS THROUGH A DRUMS VSTi THAT ALLOWS YOU TO PUT IN YOUR OWN SAMPLES LIKE FXGURU. PLUS ONE MORE QUESTION IS IT BETTER TO QUANTIZE OR EDIT BCOS IVE SEEN SOMEWHERE ON YOUTUBE SOMEONE SAYING HE DOESNT USE QUANTIZE AT-ALL SO HE MUST BE EDITING HIS MUSIC AND LOOPING THE EDITED PARTS FOR THE WHOLE SONG I GUESS WHICH MUST TAKE AGES

do you have any slow hip hop beat style demos of these MPC grooves? I'm at the paypal check out screen thinking about getting but assuming you don't do refunds. these are basically swing variations that I could apply to any beat that's created, right? extracting the groove in cubase often has bad results due to needing to be used on something similar to the original audio. hoping for quick reply.
