How BIG Is One Acre?

Technically an acre is 43,560 square feet, but back in the 17th century it was the amount of land eight oxen could plough in one day.

Unless you own eight oxen and a giant field this might not be overly relevant though, so I made this short video to show some modern examples of just how big an acre really is.

Do you have any convenient references to visualize an acre?

Speaking of size, ever wonder how big the entire commercial real estate market is?

I've had that 43, 560 number memorized since I got my license at age 19 and any time it comes up in conversation (which is not often) people think I'm some genius when I can just throw out how big an acre is in square feet haha.

A few more interesting notes about an acre:

A section of land is one square mile, which is equal to 640 acres (a quarter section therefore is 160 acres).

The largest private land owner in North America is John Malone, who owns a staggering 2.2 million square feet. This is even much higher than the fictitious John Dutton of Yellowstone fame. In season one it was referenced his ranch is bigger than Rhode Island (roughly 675, 000 acres).

Indeed, an acre is either small or enormous depending on the perspective of the person looking at it!

Great video. AMAZING Content. I can't imagine what Boeing must pay in utilities, real estate taxes and maintenance. That building must be insane. LIKED.
