Broaching Keyways in Cast Bronze Capstans Part 1

Показать описание
This is the first of three videos of the machine work needed on a pair of cast bronze capstans that were cast by Doug Jackson @SVSeeker Doug is needing the 7/16" keyways machined in the bore so I share how to tackle this job by machining a custom broach bushing and using the press & push broach to get it done. In this video we'll start off with the lathe work, then move on to milling the slot, and finally the broaching itself.
Check out SV Seekers channel to see the journey of a mans dream of building a boat from the ground up!

My Amazon Storefront where you'll find many of the tools and products I use in and out of the shop.

I'm confused. I thought Doug was killed in an explosion on board his boat.

This looks like an ad for Monarch machines. 1/8" cut with a mirror finish afterwards. It never grumps at all.

11:24 Machine shop first aid. I once saw a guy cut this fore arm open, bleeding like a stuck pig. Five minutes later, back to work with paper towels wrapped around and electrical tape.

I lost all interest in anything to do with SV Seeker after his various rants and the fake explosion videos. anything to do with him now leaves a nasty taste ...

Got that same rawhide hammer from my grandfathers basement shop after he passed away. He was a sheet metal work who did custom work after he retired. The plastic soft hammer is collecting dust now. Feels so right to use it.

From reading the comments I need to get out more. Adam is a class act just doing a job. I don’t see the need for a bunch of negativity here. Let’s try to focus on Adam’s work and his fine channel!

Love your how you explain your reasoning for choosing a particular process or method. I would never let hard feelings for somebody else, prevent me from watching and learning from you. I am sorry some of your fans won't enjoy this project due to whom it is for.
