Applying Log Oil with an Airless Sprayer

Today we are coating our log home with Log oil. The stain the protects the wood of our log home. We are going to use an airless paint sprayer to apply the oil preservative. The sprayer will cause more vapor to be in the air from the oil. So I am going to wear a Tyvek coverall suit, googles, and a face mask. Out Log home has a wrap around porch, which makes this a big job. The walls, ceilings, beams and posts all need coated.

Some 36 years ago we built a log home. We looks at several different log homes and the kind of logs they were built from. Some logs had to be treated when building was finished, and some had to be treated each year afterwards. We decided on cypress logs even though a little more expensive up front. Today after watching all the work you had to do and the expense, I now think our added expense up front was worth it after all. AS I said 36 year this year since we built our log house. I have not had any expense to date, never been treated or sprayed with anything. I do expect to have to rebuild the front and back porch within the next few years. I do wished we had went with the full wrap around porch as you did. At the time just being able to build, was a big undertaking, and we were trying to stay within our budget. I love the look of yours with the wrap around porch. Good work on the up keep, it should last a life time. Later you will be able to say, it was worth it all.

I pressure washed my uncles house, many moons ago. He had a tiny little house and it was still a hell of a job. I can’t even imagine the work you guys put into this project.

The prep work is where ALL the work is when cleaning and restraining log homes! But it is worth it, and yall have done a great job. Good luck with the "bug juice", I didnt have good success with what we used, but i just spray twice a year with termite and carpenter ant spray with the backpack sprayer. Keeps them under control. 👍

What a stunning home you are very very blessed ❤️. I love your property as well! The sprayer I'd fantastic and makes the house Pop. Good protection and well worth the time to get rid of the insects and bugs. Especially the wasps and spiders. ☺️ Australia.

I'm very happy I have brick and vinyl siding on my house. A couple of hours with a power washer every year is all it takes.

Tip: Homemade carpenter bee traps. The trick is to interrupt the bee reproduction cycle. I use a 24 ounce pickle jar with cap and a 6" block of 4x4 wood (treated or regular doesn't matter). On end bore a 3/4" hole through the center core (only about half the lenght). On each side of the block, bore a 1/2" hole at a 45 degree angle up to intersect the 3/4" hole. Center a 3/4" hole in the jar cap to align with the block hole and secure the cap to the block with three wood screws. Screw the jar onto the cap. Use an eye screw to hang the block or screw it in place to a vertical board. Only two rules (1) never wash the capture jar and (2) do not empty the jar until end of season. The captured bees release ferimones that attract other bees. The bees explore the 1/2" holes, when they get to the 3/4" intersection they see light down below and go to the light. Once in the jar they cannot figure out how to get out and eventually die. I have 12 traps around the house, shop and garden. I captured well over 100 bees this year. I quit counting after about 60. When I do empty the jars at season end I always leave one or two dead bees in each jar. Over time the population will be reduced to zero.

I'm still using my dad's Graco sprayer from 20 years ago. It will definitely help long-term.

I think I understood this is a yearly task. If it is that sprayer will pay for it's self many times over. Also be great for painting the barn and other outbuildings. I know you already are glad you bought it.
