Vilde Frang – Ernst: Grand Caprice (after Schubert's 'Der Erlkönig')

Показать описание

Heinrich Wilhelm Ernst – considered Paganini’s greatest successor – wrote this "grand caprice" based on one of Schubert’s most thrilling songs, Erlkönig. It sets a poem by Goethe that tells of a frantic night-time horse-ride by a father and his young son, who is tempted by a wicked spirit, the Erlking. When they reach their destination, the child is dead. “There is the challenge of characterising the galloping horse, the father, the son and the Erlkönig himself."

I love this interpretation. It’s so fast and chaotic but at the same time super clean. It truly represents the story of the father and the child who try to outrun death

You really break balls with your comments about the camera and about Hahn's interpretation, she does a fantastic interpretation and the camera is just fine, she's an extraordinary violinist.

One of the most incredible transcriptions for solo violin with a really powerful, gripping performance by Vilde Frang. Thank you for your deep, honest playing.

This is the best rendition of Der Erlkönig I have heard so far, closely followed by Ning Feng's and Barati's.

Schubert uses same material in the Presto movement of «Death and the Maiden» string quartet, with its second theme resembling the Erl King’s " Du liebes Kind, komm, geh mit mir! " Tempo indication of the Lied is "Schnell", which means Presto in German. Based on that, the tempo here makes sense.

Wonderful. They was so well executed! So intense! Bravo!!! Thank you!

This is one of the hardest pieces in the world. I play viola. I have played a lot of hard orchestral, chamber music, solo etc., Hindemith esp! it took me three weeks to get the first two measures!

People are gonna mention Hahn. I think she finds a way to keep the intensity without it seeming ‘fast’.

Pride of the world! The interpretation is so rich and vivd that I remember the whole poem as Vilde, the wild one, plays

Amazing tempo. But, sadly, this video is unwatchable because the cameraperson keeps moving the camera about and doesn't concentrate on what's important: Frang's left hand and her bow. Thumb up for the performance but down for the video.
