"Juxtaposing two contrasting pieces makes me see them in a new context and new light ... I like the possibility of taking up two different concertos and making one articulate the other. It is almost as if they work mutually to strengthen our understanding of both of them, each clarifying, defining and amplifying the other." – Vilde Frang

She has a refreshingly clean tone. A real musician, not a copy cat automaton. I look forward to hearing more of her.

Ms Frang plays in 3D texture.
So many of the great violinists play this concert (marvelously) with a brilliant violin's "great soprano" voice that sounds perfect and up there, but soloistic.
This strikes more for its whispers, mumbles, screeches, explosions and at times, rusticity - without a whim of excessive theatricality and pedantic powerplay.
You never feel any feckless bravura in her play - always floats in inspiration without being vague.
Scary really how someone can have such discipline! More so on video...
How ironic and poetic that the grandest Beethoven piece is best played by someone who seems so different in character...

Excellent music-making. I love the choice of rusticity and the woodwind additions ...

Pekka Kuusisto!!!
(Just thought he should be mentioned in the comments 😉 - and my guess is he is important for Vilde Frang's wonderful playing in this concerto)

She's a dynamo! You can see the concern she has that every violinist in that group follow along as per Ludwig Von Beethoven score! ...Bravo! Vilda!😅

I love Vilde's tone and precise playing . I dont know if its the youtube sound but I found that she seemed to recede into the background too much in several areas and it seemed that there were several places where the dynamics seemed odd compared to Perlman's version which I had just listened to before this version. Were the piano's and sforzandi really there in the original score? This is a bright happy movement .Its not Mozart(which Vilde plays beautifully) and its not Brahms . Beethoven was as subtle as a punch in the mouth I think the conductor seems to forget that IMO.

So little bow in the theme. Is that sufficient with microphone? In a real hall that couldn't possibly project..

Vivaldi qui joue du Beethoven...
Mais non suis-je bête, c'est anachronique !
Et surtout ce n'est pas du Beethoven.
