In this clip, I'll demonstrate how to convert a VM (Windows 10 in this case) from ESXi/vSphere to Proxmox (any version), how to convert the disk, how to create the VMID etc..

Comments, questions - are mostly welcome, as well as a like ;)

Wincing looking at the diff and snapshot files.... Consolidate and get rid of your snapshots first folks!

Also, much better to convert the entire virtual machine to ovf or ova instead of just taking a single disk and slapping a vm around it. Proxmox can import these directly, and the devices attached will be taken care of (mac address of nic, number of CPUs, etc.)

I converted the vm sucessfully! In my case I neded to change the boot order manually in the vm options. This is not said in the video. :)
Nice tutorial thanks!

any idea as to how you'd convert a multi-hard disk VM ?

btw: You can do a ctrl-t to get progress (like you can with most shell commands). Assuming you don't issue the command with the '-p' flag.

Hi, I just tried migrating (using ovftools method) a Windows server VM but it won't start in the proxmox host. I manually selected the correct OS in the options, attached the virtIO iso as a DVD, still nothing. One thing I notice in the VM hardware page is that I see the disk has a .raw extension at the end if that matter? Any pointers would be appreciated:) Thanks
