Courtesy of the Mike Squier archives, rare footage of the mighty Steppenwolf performing live in 1977, an outstanding version of their stupendous Magic Carpet Ride. One of the defining rock bands of the late Sixties and early Seventies, Steppenwolf with John Kay out front created earthy and untouchable rock that few bands could match.

John Kay later committed they went a little overboard with their wardrobe on the "Slow Flux" tour in '74/75. The same man that designed Elton John's costumes designed theirs too. He said, they had him wearing some pretty outlandish outfits with breast plates and what have you, he felt like Ming the Merciless.

Just noticed the nifty move John made with the mike stand between his legs 1:13-1:18, pretty cool!! Watch his feet!

My gosh did this rock! Bobby Cochran was on fire on lead guitar throughout the whole song. I like the close up shots of John's slide playing, he was/is excellent at it.

And this was right before Goldy got fired, at the end of this show they showed still pictures of the players except Goldy, he was let go and replaced by Andy Chapin, a fine keyboardist in his own right. Sadly they have both passed on.

But this was more like 1974, not 1977.

Lots of CANDLES all around is better than lots of camels all around unless you're stranded in a dry to the bone sandy dessert.
