I used Ikea kitchen planner to plan the reno in my prior condo and again now at my new to me 70yr old home... lovely tool for a DIY planner like me...some quirks but it works well especially to visualize things...the cabinet store kitchen designer had to adjust to match their cabinets but its a great place to start for me as the end user...

Hey Mark! You know those base cabinet stand mixer lifts – the ones where your huge stand mixer sits on a “tray” inside a base cabinet and it rises up and out of the cabinet on a counter-balanced spring mechanism so the mixer can be used at counter height? Wouldn’t it be cool to have a coffee station on the same kind of mechanism except that rather than taking up the entire base cabinet it pulled out from about the height of a base cabinet’s center shelf and then rose up (that way you could still store things in the bottom half of the base cabinet under the coffee station’s shelf). Have you ever seen a product that could do this, or would it have to be a DIY thing? Having something like this means that the coffee station isn't sitting on the countertop taking up a lot of real estate.

Also, you’ve done a lot of videos on base corner cabinet mechanisms that pull out and upper cabinet mechanisms that pull down but I don’t think you’ve covered mechanisms that can be operated (or activated) by using your foot or knee to open the base cabinet drawer or door – things like the Blum Servo Drive. Why not do a video on the types of products or mechanisms people can use to open a cabinet if their hands are full?

Thanks for this! I’ve been playing around with the designer, but having trouble figuring things out. It’s not really user friendly on an iPad with a finger instead of a mouse.

very good video; 2 things dont match with my strugles of the last days: it very early comes with the question to which wall the water is projected and, I think related, at a certain point IKEA comes with suggestions adding a lot of cabinets and re-arranging cabinets. May be useful and smart of them, but I am confused that my first trails gets overwritten. Do you recognize this behaviour ?

Thanks Mark! How do you select several cabinets at once? If you're building an island as an example, and want to move the entire thing throughout the planner.

great help! But I'm having trouble stacking wall cabinets, on top of one-another. I'm trying to stack a 30 x 15 x 20 directly atop a 30 x 15 x 30 (creating an overall height of 50" - they sit directly on the countertop if that makes any difference). I removed the light fixture, the side panels... but still, they never snap together. Any advice while I still have some hair left?

Great video, Mark. How do I print the layout of my kitchen including all measurements (walls and cabinets like a blueprint) for my contractor? Thanks.

Hi Mark, I'm loving your videos! Tell me if I missed this in some video, but how do you use the planner to design the corner of a peninsula, where the corner cabinet opens to the room on the other side of the peninsula (this would be instead of a blind corner). For example if a peninsula divides the kitchen from the living room, and I want some drawers to open on the living room side, how would I do this in the planner, and what pieces would I need for the installation?

You can measure empty space between cabinets by clicking on the cabinet and click on the position icon...it shows the actual measurements

Great video. You prevented me from making some mistakes. One issue I can't resolve, when I click the question mark (the help center) on the top right hand side of the kitchen planner, I keep getting this warning: "The minimum distance between a cutout and the end of the countertop is 3 7/8". All I did was add a cabinet with a sink. I didn't choose the sink placement within the cabinet. That's preset by the tool. If I place cabinets on both sides of the sink with or without a gap (that the tool fills in with a spacer when there is a gap) the warning remains. Nothing I can do in the countertop editor seems to help either. Even selecting a smaller sink doesn't help. Any ideas?

is there an easy way to "Save AS" so you can do a few options and not restart an entire project. I would like to look at the cost difference between two or more layouts. Any advice would be grateful. thanks

Mark, I’m late to this party, but I wanted to ask you, if I use IKEA cabinets, do I have to use their appliances, too?
