IKEA Kitchen Design | How to Design a Kitchen

I will walk you through my design process, while designing a kitchen using IKEA sizes. If you are interested in kitchen design and what to think about during the kitchen design phase, this video has a lot of pointers.

Your videos, as always are highly instructive. I have to say I would kill to have that much space for a kitchen. We just completed an Ikea kitchen, white high gloss door fronts, 78" wall and 108" wall, island top 60" x 36" and the total cost for the cabinets was $ 4K. Design could have been improved with more drawers, so you give great advice on that issue. Refrigerator was placed into what was a pantry. It could not be contiguous with the 108" wall as there is a building utility wall between the cabinets and the refrigerator. What I learned about refrigerator size when placing in a tight space: measure the refrigerator with doors closed, doors open including the depth of door handles. The handles on our refrigerator are 3" high and the the doors have to clear the walls when open. Lastly make sure the floor and walls are level and plumb as this makes a huge difference as to what size of an appliance will fit into a tight space. Over all we have a very functional kitchen in a small space.

Being that I’ve messed around with the ikea planner a little initially doing my kitchen design, I’m going to guess $2, 500 to $3, 000 for the cabinets for this kitchen. I hope to have mine done someday soon. My fear is ikea won’t have my cabinets in stock.

What are the dimensions of the nice kitchen you have just designed? Layout is very similar to what we have an a remodel is due for 2022.

Mark, I need help designing my kitchen. What would be your advice to layout a floorplan when your kitchen isn't a perfect rectangle or has an odd shaped layout? Basically the last owner extended the room but by doing so the addition isn't the same width as the first half, so we have two sections of the kitchen with different widths :/

Looks generic, busy & uninspiring.

Starting with range & sink position because "that's what everyone pretty much does" is the completely wrong approach to design.
