If I remember correctly, in the original Little Mermaid story, it was painful for the mermaid to walk in her human form. I believe it was described as walking on shards of glass. But still, she danced because she was in love. In the end, though, she becomes sea foam. I need to reread the story and see if Florence makes any other references to it. What a powerful metaphor.

I absolutely adore this new song! The horn section is literally reviving 18 year old drunken me from the cobbled streets of Liverpool. Smelling of none other than coconut perfume, tequila & the faintest bit of hairspray. I love how you captured drunken English girls as statuesque!

I really love Florence for giving a voice to the experience of girlhood and womenhood, which is truly our own. Not through male gaze, but giving all the colours of it, the bittersweetnes of it, the strength it has but also how crushing it can be. She is really adding all the vocabulary I need.

I soooo relate to this song because I too sometimes miss that cheerful oblivion that one experiences when they’re heavily under the influence of recreational substances. 1. The opening to this song filleted some part of me and shivers slithered down my back. Absolutely ethereal.... just an experience of inarticulable delight listening to it.

2. The lyrics are excellent and also paint what seems like multiple stories. E.g. I feel like everyone cursed with too much self-awareness and empathy, a surplus of consciousness, at some point longs for a cheerful oblivion.
