Just a great player through and through. An absolute joy to watch him throughout his career.  Pure greatness and pure class in how he handled his success throughout his career.  He remained as classy and as humble as you could expect a professional of his stature for 20 years.  There's a reason the Yankees kept him for his entire career.  It just wasn't because of his play, but because of his leadership and classy personality.

Looking at yankee's legacy and their previous players prior to Jeter,  statistically its clear that he's not the best baseball player, but I applaud and respect him for having a big heart, the many contributions he made to make baseball the great sport that it is today, and giving my friends and I the opportunity to root for him when I first went to a yankees game long ago. Regardless on how people think he's "overrated" or his farewell is "overhyped, " we're celebrating his career not because other people are, but because he touched each and every single one of our hearts.
