I was treated for coccidioidomycosis in the 80's. I was treated with amphotericin b 3x a week for months. It became encapsulated in the upper lobe of my left lung. I ended up having to get a left upper lobectomy. My blood titer was 1:8 which was low. During a treatment with amphotericin after my surgery, i had a reaction with violent shaking. Afterwards I had a hard time walking with a severe pain in my left leg. The doctor did a test and found that i shattered L3 L4 lumbar spine. I had a second surgery and they found a large mass of the fungus in my lumbar spine. They preformed a lumbar fusion after removing the mass. My blood titer never went above 1:8 and never went below that level.

It is a thing and it really sucks. It hurts and the treatment is long and the side effects from the antifungal meds is horrible too. I still have at least 4 months of fluxonazole left and just feel bad everyday.

Lol it comes around from the increased winds and tilling soil in agricultural areas in the Central Valley. The winds carry everything south and it dumps into LA. Then you get sprayed with pesticides and herbicides too. It's super fun and an enjoyable experience when your eyes burn, your nose bleeds, spitting up dark mucus gummies, and your lymph nodes swell. When you're an asthmatic it's extra special all Spring and all of fall. Especially when the nuts get harvested and processed. All that garbage gets kicked up in the air. And the CA state air board doesn't give a damn. It's too much money involved. They spent millions on three air monitors hundreds of miles apart that don't even do anything to measure the air as it collects in the valley. But sure, blame it on fires in mismanaged and under funded forests with no modern watershed. Great job.

This comment section is depressing and so filled with uninformed people. I blame the news media for making light of the situation with their ignorance. A simple search regarding coccidioidomycosis can educate you, so you can be informed. Early detection is crucial as it's often misdiagnosed and you're given antibiotics that won't help you. Educate yourself! Anyone living in those areas prone to the fungus are at risk.

I behave like a responsible citizen. Some won't so that's going to be up to us whether they roll out the National Guard or not. Personally I don't want to see tanks rolling through my community telling me I can't go out and do my thing or do this or you go to jail. I'm actually on my way I'll be perfect honest, I'm on my way to go get barbecue sauce right now yeah I'm not going to hide under my bed!  I'm going to have a barbecue so if there's any barbecue sauce out there to be had, I'm going to go get some right now.  I think I need spaghetti sauce too. anyhow everyone should do what everyone needs to do to get themselves through this crisis: valley fever or not!!
