Rare? They are spread all over the tropical equator, the Micronesian areas, Pacific, japan Australia to name the few.
It not rare, just takes for ever to make edible amount.

I heard that the tangy taste comes from the high concentration of propolis in this type of honey. This bees are everywhere in Indonesia, we called it Klanceng in Jawa, we consider these bees as stingless bee type. Since they don’t have stinger for protection, they produce more propolis to keep themselves stronger / healthier. Many household use bamboo for their bee hives.

This guy doesn't want you to know what the honey is actually made of. Yes they're stingless bee also known as vulture bee. Those nest and honey were mostly made of carcasses of dead animals
