Texas, Florida and California are among US states to have reversed or paused the easing of coronavirus restrictions as cases surged after lockdowns begun to lift.

The number of reported infections in the US has now surpassed 2.5 million and over 125,000 Covid-19-related deaths have been confirmed nationwide - more than in any other country.

Worldwide, the virus has been linked to more than 500,000 deaths, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore.

US Correspondent David Grossman reports from Washington DC and in the studio Emily Maitlis is joined by Mayor of Wichita Falls in Texas, Stephen Santellana.

This isn't a "second wave"; this is just a worsening of the first, initial wave

Why do we think it's a second wave? We not even at the peak of the first wave

Americans are still arguing about whether they need to wear masks. 🙂

It's because Americans want their rights, right to protest, right to not wear masks, right to go wherever they want, right to go whenever they want, right to get infected by corona virus, assuming they believe it exists.

Being from the UK, it's not for me to comment on the politics of the USA, I am not informed enough . However I do wish you well over the Pond . Our Government here in the UK have proven hopeless during this Pandemic . I work in Health Care and it's been bloody hopeless over here ! Best regards to all of you in the USA ❤️❤️💗

The different kinds of testing confuse our bunkerboy. He just cancelled federal test funding this week at the highest rate of cases. Real class!

How many have been rioting and forming their own autonomous zones?

The number's are massive and I wonder if trump is going to rethink his border policy as he might need the migrants to make up for all the poor people who have died and the rest to come

This a much more balanced report from the very poor one by John Sopel on 27th June which used unsubstantiated quotes like "Corona Virus cases are absolutely sky rocketing" when the important statistic of how many are dying is significantly below the New York peek back in April.

Sure more testing more cases. Would be better if more testing and more tested negative

It doesn’t “seem apolitical.” It IS! Wear A Mask! No more excuses! I’m American, and I approve this message 🇺🇸 Remember in November

How many hospitalisations in the rising numbers? Or is it people who are getting tested who had virus and overcame it? State numbers not just panic

Testing more ppl, cases rise who would have thunk it. I’ve had a bit to drink but I’m sure they said the death rates not went up just the number of positive cases. So what’s the problem? Considering over 80% of ppl have mild to no symptoms surely it’s the ideal situation.

Now release the real numbers. It’s probably a third of what they are stating.
