I love singers I can recognise from a single note. Morrisey is one of them.

With a lot of early Smiths songs Morrissey's main vocal melodies are almost like harmony melodies, he doesn't hit any notes hard, just kind of floats around Johnny Marr's guitar -- it was what intrigued me about the band from day one. His melodies got tighter by the time of 'The Queen is Dead' and beyond, but I have a fondness for the early Smiths records. I remember I had a Greek friend whose father (who hated pop music) really liked the Smiths because Morrissey's vocals reminded him of Greek music. That was interesting.

Morrissey has one of the most distinctive voices of all time and he sings with emotion and charisma, to me that is more important than technical prowess. Having said that, you should listen to his more recent work. His vocal capabilities have dramatically improved over time, his 2019 covers album, "California Son" is a great showcase for this.

Morrisey has a beautiful voice, super unique and recognizable. And has only got better with time

A friend of mine once said his favorite thing about Morrissey was that he never stopped singing. He would harmonize through the whole song. It changed the way I listened to his music.

I believe I heard that he had to lip-sync in this video.
Morrissey wanted to sing live, but the TV program wanted him to just hold a mic and act as if he was singing live.
He refused to use a mic, instead he hold those flowers, to show it's not actually live.

I love Morrissey! I've listened to him for 37 years almost exclusively. I've seen him live 3 times, once in a venue so small I was able to touch his shoes, hold his hand, and look right into his eyes. I was right against the stage. One of the best nights of my life!

The symmetry and chemistry between Marr's musical ideas and Morrissey's instinctive vocal techniques and words was as unique as it was breath-taking.

Chills. Every time. So unique. Words come out of his mouth, but he sings from the heart 🖤❤️

The way he sings that line ‘punctured bicycle on a hillside desolate’ chills. Reminds me of being 15 again, sadly.

This is Johnny Marr's best ever riff imho. An absolute ear worm of a riff, referring to one of Beth's most informative videos. Thank you for reminding people of one of the most influential writing duos of the 80s

Listening to Morissey/The Smiths reminds me of my beloved mom who left us 5 years ago...everytime I listen to these songs I get emotional and I get immediately taken to my 90's days when my brothers, my beloved mom and I were sitting around the stereo enjoying these songs.
Thanks for this reaction.

My daughter and I saw him in Vegas back in August. He still nails it!

I think his best vocal performance with the Smiths is "I Know It's Over". If you want another go-around with the Smiths I suggest that song.

Please do “I know it’s over” by The Smiths if you want to hear some pure Morrissey genius.
