Nice to see the Enclave investing in some Vertibirds

The UH-60 Blackhawk and variants had a tremendous run. It first went into service in 1979. Forty-five years is a long production run for anything.

I flew on an Osprey and lived. Army is about to learn the same lesson as the Marines. When shooting at a helicopter is like shooting at a line, shooting at one of these is like a + sign. There is a lot more to hit and having two vital spinnies on each wing makes it easier to down.

The V-22 osprey is going to have to compete in crashes now.

Wow Bell is opening a plant in Texas while john deere and Chevy are moving their production to Mexico and other countries. That's great.

Compared to a Black Hawk, the Bell V-280 Valor is designed with a focus on easier and faster maintenance, with features like a fixed engine configuration allowing for independent removal of components like the engine, drive shaft, and gearbox, which significantly reduces maintenance time and improves aircraft availability for operations; essentially, the Valor is expected to require less overall maintenance than a Black Hawk due to its design considerations for maintainability.

I can't be the only one thinking that's a HUGE accident waiting to happen.

They didn't want to do it, but they needed to. The brand-new Chevy Silverado of the sky

Bell is a hugely underappreciated company. Amazing history.
Kudos!

the one thing people forget is that the osprey's mishap rate is only bad for a fixed-wing, it's actually safer than literally every helicopter the Marines have.
I expect the Valor to be the same, and get the same "but it's unsafe" when it crashes more than planes but less than blackhawks.

As long as it doesn’t have crash issues. It’s only a positive to stay ahead of the game, and combining this with amphibious landing craft the us marine corps just purchased from Australia, I’d say there’s a very specific pacific purpose in mind for upgrading.

I was working at Bell as a machinist in the drive systems plant making parts for these when the Army first signed the the contract for a bunch of them. Then in normal Army fashion they backed out of it and 230 of us got "laid off" without warning one day. Back to Halliburton it was 😆 They really are good aircraft though. So many improvements over say the osprey. It's so much nicer that the engines are stationary and can have side doors even....

The main thing i wonder about tilt rotors is the logistics of side gunning, due to the rotors occupying the forward area to which a ground threat could be present. Which would limit return fire until the threat isnt hidden by the rotor path.

I mean they have more speed than a helicopter, but figure they're still suseptible to ground fire during particular operations.

I’m sure this is a great idea without any unintentional consequences.
