Why Are We Afraid of the Dark?

Lots of kids are afraid of the dark, and some adults still can't stand sleeping in the complete darkness. But why are we afraid of it?

Darknes is scary becouse you can't see something that could atack you.You know that there is probably nothing there, but when you can't see there is always a small posibility that there is a flying sharkoctopus with laser eyes infront of you.

Because it's hard to see potential threats making ambush more likely in the dark. It has to be conditioned out of you as it is perfectly natural and evolutionarily prudent.

I was afraid of the dark growing up, because it was too easy to imagine something in the dark waiting to get me. I still have it a little bit, but when I know it isn't logical in the circumstance I overcome it. When it is dark and it is good to be wary, like outside in an unfamiliar environment, I use the increased vigilance to keep myself safe.

Why are we afraid of failing? Even when nobody watches, I'm afraid of failing complex or simple tasks, skills, and other things.
